March Connections Video: Taking a moment to celebrate your wins
Want to know the most important ingredient in successful business transformation?
At Syte Consulting Group, we’ve got frameworks and templates and tools galore — but the real make-or-break factor to the success of any transformational business project is having the right people in the right roles at the right time.
In today’s video, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes story about a recent ERP implementation project we just wrapped up. This company’s team members were star players who really came together to get this project across the finish line.
I think you’re going to love seeing a little snippet of the dance party we hosted to celebrate their big launch day!
Hi there! Erin Koss here, CEO at Syte Consulting Group. It’s the end of the first quarter of 2022, and we are here to celebrate the wins for the quarter for us at Syte! This has to do with an important ERP implementation that we got over the finish line at the first of February. As you will see in a few minutes, it was an epic shift. As I share with you, the celebration video was just a very important day for us.
A little background on the story. Back in January of 2020, we started this implementation. Yeah, you see where this is going. By March of 2020, we were no longer on site and we’re working on this project 100% remotely since then. As you may be aware, with big transformational change projects, they take a little while and they take a lot of input and energy from everybody involved.
I was asking myself later as we were celebrating the win. Even though it’s a question I have been asked many times before, people ask me what tools, templates, and approach do you bring to the table as a consulting firm. We’ve been at this awhile and we have a framework for everything that we do. We have an approach, and we have tools and templates.
While those things are important, it’s not the thing. The thing is the people. You’re going to see this in the video that I share with you here in a minute. But the reminder that it brought home for me is just how important the people on these projects are. Having the right people in the right seats at the right time couldn’t be more important than when you’re trying to deliver important business initiatives and transform your business for us. This family-owned manufacturing company have sponsors in place of the executive team that really understood what they were doing, why they were doing it, and the important impact it was going to have.
It led them to make sure that they brought the right people or allocated the right people to the project from within the organization. These important subject matter experts have been with the company a long time, know the business well, also have day jobs and had important roles in those day jobs. Competing with those commitments with the project was not always easy. And they did it. They were committed to doing this the whole way. It was hard, but they did it.
From our team’s perspective, I think about what is our secret sauce and what do we bring to the table in these contexts? And of course, right tools and templates are important. That’s kind of a given. But what’s the most important is just the senior leadership and experience that our team brings to the table that allows the individuals on our team, individually and collectively, to have a level of intuition that they bring. When clients show up as they are in their unique ways, but also as projects take on their own nuances and challenges, they require pivots and adjustments that when you don’t do this all the time are sometimes difficult to know how to make.
I think our team brings this special intuition that comes with experience. I look at what’s most important about bringing projects like this over the finish line and creating important transformational change within organizations. Again, it comes down to the people and in this context specifically, it was the constant collaboration, connection and communication between the client and the sponsors and the people on their team and the people on our team as well as the solution provider in this case that really made this possible. I’d like to think that our team was an important part of being the glue that made all that happen. I share with you the Epic Shift Celebration dance party and I hope that you will find moments this quarter to celebrate with your own dance party and make sure to remember the people that helped to bring that over the finish line. Have a great day!
